Decision Journal

“A decision without reflection is like a ship without a rudder.”
— Not a real quote. But it should be.
A few weeks ago, I began working with Maria, a driven startup founder in the early stages of her journey. She initially reached out to streamline her systems, but in our discovery call, she revealed a problem every founder hates, but no one talks about.
"I’m making decisions daily, but I can’t tell which ones are actually working. It feels like flying blind."
She’s not alone. Founders, product leads, and consultants waste hours on gut-driven choices that lead to dead ends. The real tragedy? They repeat the same mistakes because they never audit their decisions.
So, I saw an opportunity, and did something radical: I built her a Decision Journal.
What Is a Decision Journal?
Imagine a GPS for your business decisions. Every time Maria launches a product, hires a team member, or adjusts her marketing strategy, her Notion journal reflects:
Why did I make this choice?
What did I expect to happen?
What actually happened and
What should I do differently?
It’s a ruthless feedback loop.
Every choice you make shapes your business. But without tracking them, you’re flying blind. By documenting your decisions (what worked, what didn’t, and why), you build a personal playbook for success. Over time, patterns emerge, blind spots fade, and your judgment sharpens.
Inside the Notiostore Decision Journal Template
Here’s how I engineered this system to force better outcomes:
✅ Structured Evaluation Framework
Pre-Decision Scoring: Rate each choice on Risk Level, Data Quality, and Stakeholder Alignment before acting.
Post-Decision Reflection: Measure outcomes using Outcome Quality, Execution Effectiveness, and Learning Gained.
Bias & Accuracy Scores: Automatically calculate a Bias Score (gap between pre/post scores) and Accuracy Score to expose overconfidence or blind spots.
✅ Deep Reflection Tools
Cognitive Biases Tracker: Flag recurring flaws (e.g., Anchoring, Confirmation Bias).
Evidence Log: Ground reflections in data (e.g., customer feedback, performance metrics).
Impact Level Ratings: Prioritize reviews of high-stakes decisions with 1–5 scoring.
Your Move
If you’re tired of second-guessing or wondering, “Why didn’t I see that coming?”, this journal is your answer.
I’m giving away the Decision Journal for free.
(Yes, it’s free. No strings attached. Just a tool to save you hundreds of hours of trial-and-error.)
